4025578655 2e3b4566b1 m Tips for Choosing a Search Engine Optimisation Company

The immense growth in the amount of time people are spending on the Internet, plus the rising cost of pay per click advertising has seen search engine optimisation become increasingly popular over the past 5 years. Many website owners today are investing in search engine optimisation which makes it harder than ever to achieve top rankings in search engines such as Google.

The traditional approach to search engine optimisation has been the process of selecting keywords, inserting meta tags and then building some links to achieve first page ranking results in Google. However, in today’s highly competitive online market this simplistic approach has been outdated due to increasing competition and the introduction of free tools such as Google Analytics which has made it easy to measure the impact of your SEO efforts.

On this basis Search Engine Optimisation should be considered as a strategy to drive qualified traffic to your website at the lowest cost. The definition of SEO success should be the amount “qualified natural search traffic delivered to your website” and not “rankings achieved”. There is no point being ranked in the Top 10 of Google if no-one is searching for or clicking on your search engine listing.

Are all search engine optimisation services the same?

The principles and promises of high rankings are all the same from search engine marketing companies however, like everything in business the results achieved from one company to another are considerably different. After all, search engine optimisation is a process of out-ranking another website, so your approach needs to be unique to be number 1.

When choosing a search engine optimisation you should ask the following questions:

- What are the traffic results the search engine marketing company has achieved for its clients?

- What SEO results has the company achieved for their own website?

- What is the company’s current client retention rate?

- What resources does the company have available to allocate to your project?

- What are the measures of success for your search engine marketing project?

- What % of the company is dedicated to search engine marketing?

Why outsource search engine optimisation to a specialist company?

The Internet is a serious sales channel today. Top rankings in Google and implementing a successful search engine marketing strategy can have a 6 or 7 figure positive impact on the profitability of your company. Asking your IT person or web design company to be responsible for your search engine marketing is a like asking your Office Manager to be responsible for business development and hitting sales targets.

Outsourcing your search engine optimization to a specialist company enables your business to cost effectively leverage the large investment that SEO company has made in developing its services. You can also access the intellectual property the SEO company has acquired from managing campaigns across their client base. These two factors alone make the business case very compelling for outsourcing your search engine optimisation campaign.

Last by not least when choosing a search engine optimisation company you should always negotiate a performance based contract, as this makes sure both parties work hard towards a mutually beneficial result.

Wishing you and your website online success in 2008

A Z of Search Engine Optimisation

Thursday 11 March 2010 @ 4:07 pm
4322805866 9b2e19c9f4 m A Z of Search Engine Optimisation

Adrian McLean an advertising agency professional at Central London needs no introduction. Just like the BPO outsourcing, this guy too has outsourced the most significant responsibility of winning over clients, to the internet. He therefore, has no reason to market his organisation. Clients come naturally to him, much like moths to a flame. Doesn’t that Sound incredible? Have you heard of a traffic jam on the internet? If not, don’t miss out on this one. All thanks to Search engine optimisation (SEO).

Search engines are one of the key ways that Internet users hit upon Web sites they are looking for. This implies that the page should be constructed in confirmation with the current scenario standards, must have a coherent layout and that the heading, explanation and text content must have relevant keywords to the necessary search term. SEO thus is the act of amending a web site so that it does well in the whole, crawler-based outcome of exploration engines. That’s why a Web site with high-quality search engine listings may see a dramatic boost in traffic. This is a remarkable and demanding process wherein a website supersedes the rest in a particular segment and wins over patrons and long term relationships.

This is done by ” Search engine optimisers”, specialists who carry out optimisation of websites on behalf of their clients. Other, more noticeable efforts of these people may include adding unique content to a site, and ensuring that the content is easily indexed by search engines and also appeals to human visitors. Studies by experts have shown that searchers scrutinise a search results page from top to bottom and left to right, looking for an appropriate outcome. Placement towards the top of the search engine thus increases the number of visitors to the site. SEO has a high probability to generate a return on investment. But, more search visits to the web pages does not assure more sales. However, search engines are not remunerated for search traffic, their algorithms change, referrals are unpredictable. Moreover, these days, even if you get to no.1 with a particular search term, you may still not show at the top of the listing since most search engines now use pay per click feeds that will always appear above yours. But of course they’re paying to be listed at number one and you’re not. Well, nothing is free! But everyone wishes to master the trick to emerge victorious from the battle of competition. And here are some tips that can prove to be handy if you are looking forward to be “number 1.”

1. Use potential site design keeping in mind the set up problems.

2. Selecting the correct keywords can give a traffic boost.

3. Your title tag matters.

4. Your copywriting should be extraordinary.

5. Your Meta tags are essential .

6. Your images “alt” attribute.

7. Be cautions about the Dont’s.

Challenges in Search Engine Marketing

Due to probability and dearth of warranty, a business house that depends deeply on SEO can undergo hefty losses if the search engines stop sending guests. Thus if you are a professional marketing a website on a search engine you must not rely solely on optimisation. Other marketing tools significant for you are advertisements on popular websites packed with flashes, offers and attractive layout and catchy one-liners apart from a plethora of other marketing techniques. Thus SEO is an effective tool and has become an essential for websites in this competitive scenario. And for those still scratching your brains, do inculcate those rare tips above.

Search Engine Optimisation Does it Generate Sales Leads

Thursday 11 March 2010 @ 3:26 pm
4160148328 99a641302c m Search Engine Optimisation Does it Generate Sales Leads

TIPS on Online Marketing Strategy, Small Business Lead Generation

There is a lot of heated debate around at the moment about whether or not it’s worth spending money on Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), as a method of generating sales leads. We’d like to help you understand the pros and cons of SEO so you can make a better-informed decision.

Search Engine Optimisation: What is It?

SEO is a series of steps you can complete to make your website more search-engine friendly and to build your website’s credibility is the eyes of the search engines. If done well it will improve the position your website holds in the search engine listing (i.e. the “organic” listing, not paid advertisements). The higher you are up the listing the better chance you have of people seeing your site and clicking through.

The primary goal of SEO is to drive traffic to your website. That is, to get people looking at your site. It DOESN’T directly address enquiry conversion, that is, turning visitors into enquiries. However one does have an impact on the other. For this reason SEO needs to be part of your online strategy but it’s a starting point not finishing point.

“SEO is a WASTE of TIME”: Bollocks!

One of the main arguments against SEO that people espouse is that it’s a waste of time and effort. With millions of competing web pages, it takes too much time and effort to get a high position. These sweeping generalisations are misleading and unhelpful. Be aware that most people saying this are trying to divert your spending into other services such as graphic design or paid advertisements instead of actually looking after your best interests.

When people start criticising SEO we often refer to our own results as a test case.

With Eyes Wide Open’s SEO efforts we have targeted terms such as “Small Business Consultants”. Over 89 Million pages come up when this search term is used on Google worldwide. Eyes Wide Open consistently holds a position in the top 5 listings. That’s the top of the front page ahead of over 89 million others. As a result we capture a large percentage of over 15 000 people worldwide searching on this term each month.

This is only possible through the smart application of SEO. What impact do you think that has on our business?

It’s taken 12 months to achieve these results. Improving your organic listing does tend to be a slower process than buying your way to the top through paid advertising (we usually recommend a strategy using both). But once you gain credibility with search engines it will take your lead generation efforts to a new level.

Search Engines Prioritise Value-Adding Sites

As a rule of thumb search engines give priority to value-adding sites that inform, educate and are helpful to the visitor. When the search engines crawl over your site they are essentially looking for signs that indicate it is a useful resource. The search engines are unbiased in terms of they don’t care whether you are a big corporation or small business they just want to put people in touch with the very best resources. Search engines have developed highly complex algorithms that they believe defines a good site. The challenge is that the search engines keep their algorithms top secret so you can’t manipulate the system. However they are extremely open and transparent about the principles that drive good website design.

Can Search Engines Read Your Site?

Search engines read text not images. If you have a lot of images on your site there’s a good chance the search engines can’t even begin to index your site properly. Images need to have “alt tags” included and site and page descriptions are vital. If you have a text-rich site you also need to make sure the HTML code is clean and simple to make it easier to read.

Think like a Search Engine

Treat the search engines like any other visitor. Personify them. Imagine they are a site reviewer from an online magazine who only has a matter of seconds to conduct a review and pass judgement on your site.

Here are some of the “questions” the search engines are possibly asking when they visit your site:

-Can I quickly tell what this site is about?

-Do the headings and links quickly tell me what the important messages are?

-Is it easy to find my way around this site?

-Are there links from other top ranking websites coming into this site, indicating it’s a valuable resource?

-What are the important pieces of information I should include in the listing?

-What keywords should I associate with this site?

“SEO is CHALLENGING TO GET RIGHT”: True!

Getting your SEO right is an ongoing process. You are dealing with a moving target as new websites list and the search engines refine their algorithms. When we establish an online strategy for a client we complete over 8 different types of analysis on an existing website before we even make a recommendation. Set aside time and resources to do a major upgrade of your SEO then ensure you are doing at least a review every 3 to 6 months. You need to be very clear about the impact you want it to have on your business, keep that goal in mind and measure your progress against it. If you would like further tips about SEO as part of your sales lead generation strategy please don’t hesitate to call our offices and we will discuss your options over the phone.

Search Engine Optimisation Knowledge A Prerequisite

Thursday 11 March 2010 @ 3:08 pm
2983799494 f68790c0d1 m Search Engine Optimisation Knowledge A Prerequisite

Put simply the search engine optimisation process attempts to increase the traffic to a website from search engines. Currently the industry is booming, with those who have the correct skills and knowledge are reaping the benefits of extensive research. To achieve greater traffic the ultimate objective is to increase the rankings of a website in search engine results. Understandably by being at the top of the rankings, a website will be more likely to attract visitors and hence, custom.

One of the major considerations when undertaking search engine optimisation are the keywords that are included on web pages; only through careful deliberation should these be decided upon. These keywords are either words or phrases that are likely to be entered by search engine users when looking for products or services. Selecting keywords however can be difficult, while you want to target competitive phrases, if the phrases are too competitive; chances are that success will not be forthcoming. An example would be a company that sold MP3 players; a possible keyword would be ‘MP3 players’ although competition for this term would be extremely high, a more advisable strategy would be to target more specific terms such as ‘1 Gb Mp3 players’ or ‘Blue MP3 players’. By using these terms competition will be considerably less and rankings will be more achievable. Using a number of keywords is also advisable to target multiple phrases.

These keywords should be included in the content of the website but additionally should be contained in the off-page information. Elements such as Meta information are vitally important in the world of optimisation as they are the first information to be read by search engine spiders. These tags need to be unique and also relevant to the information contained on the site. All pages on a site need tags to ensure that search engines are supplied with the relevant information. Uniqueness cannot be overestimated; search engines place great importance on content and tags, when creating content then it must be remembered at all times that it should be bespoke, copying from other websites is a big mistake as ultimately this will lead to penalties.

The fear of incurring penalties is a major concern in the world of optimisation. Largely these can be avoided by following methods that in the industry are termed ‘white hat’ or ‘ethical’. There are however some unscrupulous operators who pursue ‘black hat’ methods; these are methods that actively work towards deceiving the search engines into ranking a site higher. Such methods are cloaking; the practise of presenting different information to human and automated visitors; keyword spamming; the process of overusing the key terms and link farming; using a number of websites to link to each other and improve rankings.

These methods, while they can provide initial success ultimately are not a worthy course of action to follow. Both search engines and competitors will look for these methods and will report a website for using them. Once the methods have been picked up, penalties such as complete removal from the rankings can and will come into effect. Pursuing white hat techniques is far more advisable although ultimately they will take longer. Search engine optimisation is however a long game, it is not a process that can be pursued quickly if long lasting success is required.

This article has only reached the tip of the iceberg in terms of search engine optimisation methods and techniques. As previously stated the industry as a whole is growing rapidly and this is due to the fact that the knowledge possessed by SEO specialists is in high demand. Naturally companies want to pursue high rankings as it will bring increased business, with the right SEO specialist on board this is a real and attainable possibility.

Internet marketing expert Thomas Pretty looks into search engine optmisation methods and why specialist knowledge is a fundamental element in rankings success.

Recent trends indicate that the internet is replacing traditional media as the leading source of information and E-Commerce is replacing high street retail as the leading sales channel. Search engine marketing is particularly important for a small business as costs involved are often lower than implementing a nationwide or even a local marketing campaign using traditional methods of marketing such as print media or advertisements in niche publications within the industry. In addition to search engine marketing offering a higher return on investment, the recent trends in consumer behaviour indicate that intact search engines have a wider reach than even television in some market sectors.

Search engine studies have shown that if a Web site does not rank among the top 15 of a search result, chances are it will not get noticed and subsequently not generate any traffic to the website.

Here are some search engine optimisation tips for small businesses

Create a simple but clear and professional Web site. Your website is the first impression or your business so it is important for your website to be professionally designed.

This is 12 repetitions in 400 words.

How to get higher rankings on Google Yahoo or MSN, by doing your own Search Engine Optimisation – SEO in Kent

There is lots of advice we can offer you with SEO, but let’s keep it very simple for your first experiment with SEO.

Assuming you have a website that you can edit yourself (we can provide you with a website that you can edit yourself with simple Word Processor skills, if you don’t).

Try the following SEO steps below, it should only take you about 20 mins to implement Decide what your preferred key word or key phrase is that you want to be found on Google for, e.g. “SEO in Kent” Add a new webpage to your site with it’s name; the same as the key phrase e.g. SEO-in-Kent.htm The Page Name needs to have the phrase at the beginning of the sentence, e.g. “SEO in Kent you can find to find out how, by ringing 01634 260700 Today” Make the first text for the Description as this key phrase as well e.g. “SEO in Kent you can find our how, by ringing 01634 260700 Today” In the keyword area, add this key phrase as the first one in the list e.g. seo kent, search engine optimisation kent, etc… Make the very first text on the page start with the Key Phrase e.g. “SEO in Kent you can find to find out how, by ringing 01634 260700 Today” … but then select the text and use text formatting to make it the H1 (Heading 1) The first paragraph must also start with the key phrase e.g. “SEO in Kent you can find our how, by ringing 01634 260700 Today or read the article below for more information” Add lots of body text that includes the key phrase as often as makes logical sense e.g. “SEO in Kent is a subject that appears to be very technical and very difficult to achieve, however, many clients have found out how to do their own SEO in Kent and discovered that SEO basics are easier to implement than they first thought …”  Add related H2 & H3 headings with key phrase variations as appropriate e.g. “Search Engine Optimisation Tips”. Now go to your home page and add a number of well placed text links to this new page e.g. “click here to find out how to do your own SEO in Kent” Add some images within the body text and name them with the key phrase e.g. seo-in-kent.jpg ; seo-kent.jpg … You should be able to add some ALT text (Alternative Text) to the image, when you place the image on the page, also use the key phrase e.g. “SEO in Kent” or “click here to find out how to do your own SEO in Kent” Find a business associate with a website listed on Google and ask them to add a link on their website where the text is your key phrase e.g. “click here to find out how to do your own SEO in Kent”

If you haven’t already listed your website with Google then use this link to ‘Submit You Site‘ and use the whole path URL to the new page together with the key phrase as the description.

I hope this all helps, let me know how you get on.

Search Engine Optimisation Tips For The New year

Wednesday 10 March 2010 @ 11:04 pm
4152163458 b5673cca83 m Search Engine Optimisation Tips For The New year

If you design content for your website, you are probably always looking for new ways to optimise the pages you develop. Search engine optimisation is a crucial part of receiving high rankings and let’s face it, rankings are what it’s all about. You want people to see you and in order to make that possible you have to become more visible.

Conventionally, search engine optimisation was mostly accomplished through optimising the actual content on any given web page, but now that is changing. The addition of different types of content, i.e. video, images, blogs and more has made it possible for you to be in many places at once and necessary for you to take notice and jump onboard.

It’s now all about links. The more links you can acquire, the more visible you will become. search engine optimisation or SEO is all about a network of sorts in that the more you are attached to the various types of content the more your name is spread all over the World Wide Web. Think of it like this. You optimise your pages so the search engines will find you. You make a video to promote your company and place it up on a site like Youtube. You also place a link to your official site on the video page. That way anyone who watches your video on Youtube can click on the link and immediately access your company information. Likewise, you can use a code on your Youtube page that will make it possible for users to watch the video right from your page. Here you are promoting both your site and your video in a way you’ve never been able to before. The best part? It’s free!

The same is true when you place images that pertain to your company on other sites. Search engines can now find them as well and if they are linked to you others can easily find them and your website.

Blogging is another very popular means of ranking high in search engines that really opens up many possibilities. When you write your blog posts you can include information that pertains to your industry, perhaps tips and tricks or some useful knowledge you’ve learned along the way and want to pass on to others. You can also use your blog to summarize news articles that were written about your company, then add the link to the actual article so others may read it. This is a great way to show the publicity you have received. Often the page containing the article will also contain a link to your site where, again, readers may click to find out more about you.

Search engine optimisation is all about making the most out of the available tools in order to receive the needed publicity. Hard work equals results and after all, that’s what it’s all about.

Search Engine Optimisation Tip – Did you know that many search engines check to see when you last updated your site and use that as a gauge as to whether your site is up to date and relevant – the logic here is that a site that has been update in the last month is going to be more relevant that a site that has not been updated for over a year.

So what to do about this. Well assuming you have access to edit and add content to your website (either via FTP or through a Content Management System) you should go in and make sure that the information on your website is up to date. It is? Well start adding some content – Make it a once a week habit or I would even recommend it once a day if you can really spare the time.

There is another added bonus of doing this – over time you will be building your website, so it could have potentially hundreds of pages of content.

Each of these pages is an access point for someone to visit your site via a search engine – the more pages you have then potentially the more Keywords and Phrases you will be targeting – before you know it you will have hundreds, if not thousands of daily visits to your website. What you do with that traffic once it is there is up to you.

Here are my tips on what to do if your imagination is struggling to think of how to update your site with new content -

• Create an Articles Section on your website

• Think of 5 articles related to what you do and write them up (try and make the article at least 300 words long if you can).

• You now have 5 weeks worth of updates for your website.

• Keep a notepad handy; whenever you think of a new article title jot it down. You will then start to develop a list for when you can’t think of what to write about.

• Keep with it. Short term you will not get much benefit from doing this – 12 months down the line, you will be amazed by the results.

So now ive given you these top tips – get out there and start writing some content.
